If you are considering getting dormer roofs added to your property to create more space, you may already have an idea in mind as for how to use it. However, once some learn about how much value a dormer loft conversion can add, this may be an afterthought. So, we have put together a list of ideas do you to best utilise your additional room.
An Extra Bathroom
A super useful way to use the space is to add an additional bathroom into your loft. Depending on the size, you may not even need to use up the whole attic. If you want a bedroom up there too, you may need more extensive bathroom facilities. If there is a games room up there, only a toilet and basin may be required.
If you would like a shower, double-check that you have sufficient headroom. It could be worth speaking to your roofing specialist to find a solution with maximum headroom – such as using a truss with a raised top chord.
Living Room
Having an extra living space is never a bad idea – perhaps you have older children living at home who would appreciate a bit of privacy, or maybe you’d just like somewhere to escape to yourself every so often. It is nice to have your own space to relax when you need it.
Hobbies Room
This might be considered a woman or man cave – and the loft is a great area for this, you can include spaces for games devices, a mixer and speakers, instruments or any other hobbies that may require some extra room.
All the ones we listed can also tend to be a bit nosy at times. To add some extra soundproofing consider asking your contractor for thermal insulation in the walls, ceiling and floors or to use high-density acoustic plasterboard. You can also add foam tiles or use carpet once the build is over to absorb sound.
Entertainment Space
With the pandemic, we’re all spending a lot more time at home – and it can get a little boring at times. Having a dedicated space to keep your family and bubble entertained is an excellent use of space. Having a home bar area is such a unique idea and will soften the blow of a lockdown and the closure of hospitality. The sloped ceilings can work to your advantage here when finding interesting ways to create seating areas.
If you have the space for a terrace, then this could really be something special. Consider using the same flooring throughout to create a cohesive and ultra-trendy area.
